Department of Chemistry started its work in the year 1969 with the initial strength of 10 students. In the same year, the department was facilitated with full fledge laboratory. Prof. G.P.Hedge was the Head of Department with two faculty members, Smt.P.D.Komalavalli and Smt.P.P.Hiremath, who were highly dedicated and committed for the growth of the department. Presently, the department is headed by Smt.H.B.Shambhavi and another permanent faculty Smt.S.Bramara Kumari, along with five guest faculty namely Sri.J.P.Govind, Smt.C.K.Ashwini, Sri.Prakashgouda.G, Ms.Sushma.B. and Sri. Md. Eizaz. The members of the department are highly experienced and thoroughly committed to work and deeply concerned with the progress and welfare of the students.

The Head of Department has also taken necessary steps to update and advance the laboratory facilities by providing the latest equipment and paraphernalia. As on now the department is blessed with two full fledged and well equipped laboratories to balance the increasing strength of the students with all the efforts and endeavour of the faculty members. The department is ensuring an average of 90% of results with a flock of rank holders till date.

In addition to the regular curriculum, the department members are also very active in conducting extra-curricular and co-curricular activities like seminars, paper presentations, science elocution and essay writing competitions in order to explore the hidden talents of the students. In spite of the aforesaid internal activities, the department also holds social awareness events in the nearby villages and also organises students rallies, industrial visits, special discourses on the advanced topics and innovations in Chemistry.
